What is Egypt COC/GOEIC clearance Certification?


Egypt COC/GOEIC certificate is a mandatory document which is necessary for Customs clearance of exports and imports to many countries around the globe. GOEIC stands for General Organization for Export and Import Control in Egypt while COC stands for Certificate of Conformity.

According to the Egyptian Ministry of Industry and Foreign Trade, trademark owners, distributors, and manufacturers of regulated products need to have Egypt’s GOEIC clearance certificate in other to export to Egypt.

The Egyptian Government initially obligated distributors, and manufacturers of leather and textile products to register with the General Organization for Export & Import Control (GOEIC). However, the list of products covered by the GOEIC was expanded among general changes to the customs clearance procedures by the Egyptian Ministry of Trade & Industry in 2016. This means that you need to register your products with GOEIC in order to continue export to Egypt.

The project subjected to the COC verification program includes Food, Textiles, Shoes, Leather bags, Cosmetics, hygiene products, Detergents, Construction Materials, Carpets, and floor coverings, Furniture, Kitchenware, Electric & electronic products, Bicycles & motorcycles, Toys, and Watches. The Egyptian custom officers delay the clearance of your goods for days or return your shipment when you fail to get the COC certificate.

GOEIC Clearance Certificate Process

There are two processes for the GOEIC certification, and they are:

 Unregistered or Unlicensed Products GOEIC process
This process is designed for occasional exporters who are not required to register or license their products. This process consists of three different steps, the Document verification, Product testing in the Laboratory, and the physical inspection of goods. The documents required for the verification step includes Request for Certification, Pro-forma Invoice, Packing List, Letter of Credit, and Valid Conformity Documents.  

 Registered Products process
This process is designed for exporters and manufacturers who make consistent shipments to Egypt. This process consists of three different steps, the Document evaluation, registration, and the physical inspection of goods. The documents required for the verification step includes Request for Certification, Pro-forma Invoice, Packing List, Letter of Credit, and Valid Conformity Documents. It is important to note that you can only register a product once in a year, however, your product sample will be tested once in three months to ensure that your product continues to meet the requirement of the Egyptian government.

Why Egypt Clearance Certificate is required?

Without Egypt COC clearance certificate, the custom will reject and deny the release of all regulated products arriving at the Egyptian land borders, ports, or airports. The certification is required in other to avoid re-exporting the products or delays while caused by the testing of the product to know if it meets the requirements of the Egyptian government.
